Superstructure Construction of Building | Nuvo Nirmaan

What is Superstructure?

Superstructure is an upward extension of an existing structure above a baseline. This term is applied to various kinds of physical structures such as buildings, bridges or ships. In construction, the Superstructure is the portion of a building which is constructed above the ground level and it serves the purpose of the structure’s intended use.

Superstructure is made up of various sub-stages like:

Columns and first flight of staircase

Perfect time to Start

In India, Superstructure can be built at any time of the year provided the
below measures are followed:

Atmospheric Temperature in Superstructure

Avoid concreting activity if the atmospheric temperature goes beyond 40°C

concreting activit in Superstructure

Start concreting activity early in the morning during summer to avoid
excess water evaporation due to high temperatures in the afternoon

Sprinkle aggregates with water

Sprinkle aggregates with water before mixing the concrete to bring down
their temperature

Sprinkle aggregates with water

Due to temperature variation in winter, appropriate arrangement should be made to cover concrete surface immediately after concreting activity is completed

Sprinkle aggregates with water

Water cement ratio should be properly controlled while doing concreting in winter season

Sprinkle aggregates with water

During monsoon, materials like cement, sand and aggregates should be kept covered in a dry area

Time required to complete the Substructure:

Approx. 30 days for a 750 sq. ft. home and approx. 45 days for a 1000 sq. ft. home.
Note: Work for slab and beams cannot start until the formwork for the columns has been removed. At all costs, avoid using marble chips/stone chips as cover blocks and early removal of formwork. Make sure to give proper time for curing of concrete.

Duraguard Microfiber is the only cement available in the market, built with the benefit of Microfiber. It is the most advanced cement, enhanced with Microfiber Technology for extra binding power. Acting as micro reinforcing agents, the Microfiber help the cement to resist seepage, dampness, shrinkage, and thermal cracks for years to come. Major advantages of using this cement are – Surfaces with fewer cracks, Strong structures, Reduced water seepage, and Low maintenance structures.

InstaMix

  • InstaMix is a ready-to-use concrete available in 35 kg bags
  • The contractor has to just shake the bag, open it and pour the concrete at the desired location
  • Use of InstaMix will eliminate procurement and storage of different raw materials
  • InstaMix bags can be ordered even for small concrete volumes

XLite

  • XLite is lightweight concrete that can replace brickbat coba as a waterproofing overlay on roof slab
  • It can also be used as filling material in sunken slab areas like bathrooms, toilets & balconies
  • The use of XLite can reduce the load on the structure

Zero M Water Shield

  • It is an integral waterproofing compound mixed with cement at the time of concreting
  • It helps in waterproofing of R.C.C. elements which will be buried inside the ground and subjected to moisture at all times
