SUPERSTRUCTURE

Superstructure is an upward extension of an existing structure above a baseline. This term is applied to various kinds of physical structures such as buildings, bridges or ships. In construction, the Superstructure is the portion of a building which is constructed above the ground level and it serves the purpose of the structure’s intended use.

Superstructure is made up of various sub-stages like:

  • Columns and first flight of staircase
  • Floor slabs and beams
  • Roof slab and beams
  • Sunken slabs
  • Overhead water tanks, etc.

In India, Superstructure can be built at any time of the year provided the below measures are followed:

  • Avoid concreting activity if the atmospheric temperature goes beyond 40°C
  • Start concreting activity early in the morning during summer to avoid excess water evaporation due to high temperatures in the afternoon
  • Sprinkle aggregates with water before mixing the concrete to bring down their temperature
  • Due to temperature variation in winter, appropriate arrangement should be made to cover concrete surface immediately after concreting activity is completed
  • Water cement ratio should be properly controlled while doing concreting in winter season
  • During monsoon, materials like cement, sand and aggregates should be kept covered in a dry area

Time required to complete the Superstructure:

  • Approx. 30 days for a 750 sq. ft. home and approx. 45 days for a 1000 sq. ft. home.

Note: Work for slab and beams cannot start until the formwork for the columns has been removed. At all costs, avoid using marble chips/stone chips as cover blocks and early removal of formwork. Make sure to give proper time for curing of concrete.

  • Completing the work as fast as possible
  • Preparing small quantities of concrete

  • InstaMix is a ready-to-use concrete available in 35 kg bags
  • The contractor has to just shake the bag, open it and pour the concrete at the desired location
  • Use of InstaMix eliminates procurement and storage of different raw materials
  • InstaMix bags can be ordered even for small concrete volumes

XLite

  • XLite is lightweight concrete that can replace brickbat coba as a waterproofing overlay on roof slab
  • It can also be used as filling material in sunken slab areas like bathrooms, toilets & balconies
  • The use of XLite can reduce the load on the structure

Zero M Water Shield

  • It is an integral waterproofing compound mixed with cement at the time of concreting
  • It helps in waterproofing not only the wet areas but also all the floor areas of the building

Zero M Latex Expert / Zero M Acrylic Power

  • Both liquid-based waterproofing compounds can be applied externally in the form of coating
  • Latex Expert can be used for coating inside the bathroom & toilet slabs, walls of bathroom & toilet and water tanks as a damp-proof course
  • Acrylic Power can be used for all roof slabs, external walls, walls of bathroom & toilet

Duraguard RapidX / Duraguard Microfiber / Concreto Green

Different types of cement can be used in all structural applications of the building.For example:

You can use Duraguard RapidX, if you want to increase the speed of construction since this is a fast setting cement.

OR

You can use Duraguard Microfiber, if you want to minimise shrinkage cracks on the surface of slab.

OR

You can use Concreto Green, if you have water shortage as it consumes 25% less water and gives 70% more strength.
